FARM DESCRIPTION:
Flynn Creek Farm is a certified organic farm that is in its first phase of development and striving to implement more regenerative practices in 2024. This will be a unique opportunity to see the ins and outs of how a farming operation will be set up from a blank slate. The produce side of the operation will be the primary focus for the first few seasons as we begin to implement the plans for the entire farming operation. We are committed to building efficient systems, providing an educational and gratifying work environment, and producing high-quality nutrient dense food. So while we will have aa separate produce crew focusing on fulfilling our mission to feed our surrounding community - we will need motivated individuals to help push the long term vision forward - and begin to set ourselves apart as a biodiverse, close looped, regenerative farm.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Flynn Creek Farm is seeking skilled flex crew members to join our new farming operation that are eager to learn, have great work ethic, positive attitude, strong dedication to our mission, and who function well in an all-hands-on-deck environment. Flex crew members will be involved in all aspects of the farm’s outside of produce / vegetable production. This will include:
Fertility -
Worm Compost - help set up + maintain / feed + harvest worm compost
Compost Tea Brew - help set up and create compost brew system using worm compost, sea minerals and perennial crop
Field Compost - help set up and maintain field compost, potential static system
Testing - test all soils around farm, all compost production and teas
Livestock -
Goat + Sheep Herd
40-80 head of Goats + potentially
Establishing Pasture + Managing Oak Savanna
Cultivate, seed pasture seed, create paddocks
Livestock Fence - (Perimeter + Interior)
Removing old fence line + Excavating overgrown fence-line
Forestry -
Invasive Cutting + Brush Removal, felling trees to clear canopy, creating paths between farm fields, store wood for milling, cut + store firewood
Habitat / Orchard -
Establish prairie strips based on contour to reduce erosion, manage + cultivate newly planted 40 acre native prairie (100+ species)
Start transitioning alfalfa fields to orchard grasses for future grazing of ruminants
General Farm -
Landscape - Mowing Lawn, Oak Savanna, Pasture, drive paths, Help managing native / perennial gardens
Infrastructure / Equipment - help build farm equipment / infrastructure, aid in farm equipment upkeep, or anything else that will need extra help that day or week
Specialty Crop - aiding microgreen, sprouts, and outdoor mushroom operation
Some weeks you will be working more with one operation and other weeks more with different areas of the farming operation. Throughout the season, crew members will work closely with our farm manager and have opportunity for an in-depth look at organic regenerative farming practices, gaining experience and skills for all aspects of the farm.
This position will have the ability to learn the necessary skills to become a crew lead of a specific area or one of the managers in the future if desired. With the farm’s vision of being a multi-faceted operation, the opportunity to learn and grow with the farming operation is virtually endless.
QUALIFICATIONS
Fast, hands-on learner who takes instruction well, is not afraid to ask questions, and quickly applies lessons learned to their work.
Desire to learn and be a part of many to most aspects of the entire farming operation
Energetic person who understands deadlines and shows up on time with a positive attitude.
Active communicator who enjoys being part of a team, but is also comfortable working alone on projects.
Reliable, responsible, and self-motivated individual who is open to receiving feedback.
Individual with strong attention to detail, thorough observation skills, and ability to maintain consistent sizing standards while keeping efficiency in mind.
Strong communication skills among coworkers and managers
Selfless attitude - willing to help others even when not required / expected of you
Not afraid of long days of physical work in all weather conditions.
Ability to lift 50 pounds is required.
Reliable transportation to the farm is also required.
Previous farming experience is preferred, but is not required.

Hourly Rate
Starting at $15-18/hr (depending on skills / experience)
Part-Time: 2-3 days per week
Full-Time: 4-5 days per week

PTO
1st Year- 24 hours, 2nd Year- 40 hours, 3rd Year- 50 hours, 4th Year- 60 hours, 5th Year- 80 hours
Work Week Schedule
Harvest Days - Monday, Wednesday + Thursday
Full Farm Meetings - Wednesday
Half Days - Weekends (only for those who want weekends on)
